Bookmarks: saved selections, sheet and layout
Bookmarks in Power BI
Qlik bookmarks save the current selections (and optionally sheet layout). Power BI has report bookmarks, created by the author and shipped with the report, and personal bookmarks, created by each reader in the service.
What it does in Qlik
A Qlik bookmark stores selections, optionally the sheet, and can be set as the app's default. Bookmarks can be private or published to the community.
Qlik example
// Bookmark "EU 2024" = selections Region = Europe, Year = 2024
// Button action: Apply bookmark "EU 2024"Power BI equivalent
Report bookmark and button
Set the slicers, add a bookmark named EU 2024, then insert a button with Action → Bookmark → EU 2024. Untick Data in the bookmark options if it should only toggle visuals without changing filters.
Gotchas and behaviour differences
- A bookmark captures the state of all visuals on the page by default, including which ones are hidden. Use Selected visuals to change only part of a page.
- Data bookmarks freeze slicer values. If the data later has new values (a new year), the bookmark doesn't pick them up. Use relative date filters where you can.
- Readers in the service can't publish a bookmark for others, unlike Qlik's published community bookmarks. Share a link with the filters in the URL, or ask the author to add a report bookmark.

Alternate states (comparative analysis)
Alternate states give objects independent selection sets, for example comparing two groups of regions side by side. Power BI has one filter context per visual, plus disconnected tables and measures that apply them with TREATAS. There is no built-in "state" concept.

GetFieldSelections(Region)
GetFieldSelections and GetSelectedCount
GetFieldSelections returns the selected values of a field as text, often for dynamic titles. In DAX you combine ISFILTERED, VALUES and CONCATENATEX.
